Moosletoe
The title refers to a Children's Christmas book. The main character is trying to create the perfect Christmas for his family. He creates a long list and checks everything off as he accomplishes it. "Check, check, triple check - everything was going so perfectly perfect." Then on Christmas Eve his family notices one thing he forgot - the Christmas tree. Since there wasn't one left in town, they turn Moose (and his incredibly long mustache) into a Christmas tree. "Ok, so it wasn't so perfectly perfect..." is the ending. That's how I feel today. Last week I was feeling great getting everything on my baby checklist accomplished. So I decided to tackle some computer projects. I got all the photos from 2007-end of 2008 separated into different files for each year, each preschool year, each summer camp, etc, and backed them up onto DVDs. Check. Then I made 2 more copies of each to give to family members to keep for us. Double check. Then I cleaned the old photos off the computer. Triple Check. Everything was going so perfectly perfect. So today I thought I'd tackle another computer project - trying to make a blog book on Shutterfly. I wan't sure that's the route I wanted to go, so I was just trying out a few pages. I was trying to add the accompaning pictures, but couldn't find them anywhere. I mentioned it to Steve and he wondered if they were on our old computer. Instantly it clicked - when we got our new computer at the beginning of last year, we weren't consistant with which computer we downloaded the pictures on. So I had done all that work and there was still half the year on the old computer!!! Not so perfectly perfect. So now I begin the whole process again. This time with ALL the pictures - I hope. Why does it seem like I can never do anything right the first time? Well, at least I'll get them backed up eventually. And I'll have to reimport the year on my digital photo frame since I apparently missed a few months. Ho hum....

Blessing
Well, I always knew I had a great hubby. Now he's being recognized for his greatness at work. His boss pulled him aside today to tell him how impressed everyone's been with him. They're working on finding him the right place to move up to. But in the meantime they gave him a raise + 2% more contribution to his 401K. Needless to say, he likes his job even more. Hidden perks keep popping up. We just got a free Costco membership out of the deal. Glad he's happy. This is good news for us right before all the medical bills head our way!!

E&Eisms - revised
A few fun things from the girls lately.
* Ella's prayers have been getting very detailed lately. She'll say anything that's on her mind. Last night she prayed, "Please bless that the baby will get pulled out soon."
*Emily whispered to me that she wanted to play girlfriend/boyfriend. I asked her how she knew about that. She got quiet all the sudden. I asked her if she had a boyfriend at school. She said no, but Colton says she's his girlfriend. Aauugghh - not yet!
*Emily counted to 100 by 10s the other day. I was very impressed since I hadn't taught that to her. About to sing praises about her kindergarten teacher, I was interrupted by Emily saying, "Mickey Mouse taught that to me!" Well, at least the $55/month we spend on Satellite is paying off.
*I've gotten the baby swing, car seat, bouncy chair out and they've already gotten a lot of use. Ella could play with them and her babies all day! Maybe all this play will keep her from actually smothering the baby when it finally does come!
*Emily usually asks me if the baby likes what I'm eating. Today I said, "I think she likes everything I eat." Emily replied with, "My tummy likes everything I eat, just not my tongue." Pretty smart observation!
*Emily was telling me about a new game they played in school about Snowmen. I said, "Wow, a snowman game sounds fun." She replied with, "SnowMIN, mom - it means more than one." Ohhhhh.

No power - no primary
It's definitely been an interesting weekend. Wednesday night we had the family over for a New Year's Eve party. It was our last time seeing M&D before they left the next day. We had an early countdown at 8:00 for M&D and the kids, but ended up staying and playing games until 10:00. I've deceided that maybe that was too long of unsupervised children because I keep finding broken and misplaced things in the basement! Guess my basement isn't childproof when it's unsupervised! We went to bed shortly afterwords, but got woken up by a large amount of fireworks at midnight!
Then on Thursday, New Year's Day, we worked to remove every Christmas item from the house. It's a huge job and of course, this year I couldn't help as much as normal. Unfortunately Steve wasn't feeling well, but I kept throwing projects at him - poor guy. We did end up getting everything away and getting the baby stuff out, but that about killed him. Friday, he ended up coming home from work a couple of hours early. He said he wouldn't have lasted an hour at his old job, but he could handle a sit-down job a bit longer. He came home and slept for a couple of hours. He has some sort of bad head cold. Friday night the power was off for about two hours. You know how boring it is to sit in the dark with nothing to do for 2 hours? The girls had fun playing shadow games until Ella smacked Emily on the chin with the flashlight. She now has a lovely sore to show for it. It finally came back on right before the girls bedtime.
Saturday I was hoping Steve would refinish the dresser I bought for the girls bedroom. There's no place to put baby clothes, so I found a nice one at Savers - just needed a new paint job. So I decided to tackle it myself. (You know me - not afraid of a project and also when I want something done, I WANT something done!) Steve has a sander attachment for his drill, so it wasn't too bad to sand it all down. I gave it two coats of a nice fresh white paint and it looks awesome. I wasn't too cold out in the garage at first, but by the end it was FREEZING! I also ordered some porcelain princess handles online and can't wait to put those on. Yesterday I got the girls clothes in it and it looks really nice!
The power went off AGAIN yesterday from about 10:30 - 1:45. Our church was at 12:30, so we did our best and walked into a pitch black chapel. We sat there for about 5 minutes until someone announced that we should come back at 2:00. Luckily the power did come on just before 2:00. There were 3 wards there at that time and it was an interesting, but very nice Fast and Testimony meeting. The singles ward bishop was conducting and said, "I just can't pass up this opportunity to let you know that we're recruiting for the singles ward." Reminded me of M&D's single's ward days. Another bishop said in his testimony that he can't help but think that this would be what his ward looked like if they had 100% attendance (we were using all three overflows.) I was glad that we weren't the 10:30 ward and had to come to church THREE times that day. We only had Sacrament meeting and E&E were very sad to miss their first week of primary. Ella had a new Book of Mormon and was so excited to be a big girl! BTW, I was released from the Primary Presidency 2 weeks ago. Good timing since I wouldn't be much help for awhile anyway. It was weird going to Sunday School and Relief Society though. It's been at least 4 1/2 years!
While looking through the 75% off Christmas stuff at Walmart on Saturday, I was very proud of myself that I didn't buy anything. I think I've gone crazy the last couple of years. We pretty much have everything we need. I did find these My Little Pony advent calendars. They have mini-ponies and assessories for each day before Christmas. But since my baby is due on the 24th, I thought it would be a great baby countdown calendar. They've loved opening a new toy each morning!
The girls are upstairs watching Ella Enchanted. Or as Ella calls it, "My Ella Movie." Emily is thrilled to return to school today. I'm not thrilled to actually have to clean the basement and get ready for preschool tomorrow!
