Summer - week 1

Ok, summer can be done now. I really don't think I can take another full day of constant whining, mess making, baby crying, and not getting my projects done. Mom says that kids have to adjust to summer too, so hopefully things will get better.

We did do a few fun things this week. We've gone to the school a couple of times for their free lunches. The girls have played at a friends house, gone to a water party, gone to the pet store, and gone to the Children's Museum. We also all had our doctor and dentist visits this week. Yeah - no cavities this time. I guess going to the dentist every six months and being more diligent about brushing and using fluoride rinse paid off. Except the dentist gave me VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY BAD NEWS!!! Emily needs to get an expander in her upper jaw as soon as possible. She has such a narrow mouth and all her teeth won't fit. We decided to wait 6 months to see if her 6 year molars have come in yet. If you know Emily AT ALL - you know that is probably the worse news I could get. She does not tolerate pain at all, so I can't imagine what it will be like to have wires cemented into her mouth that we have to tighten daily with a key. I will be begging all of you for fasting and prayers.

Ella was excited that she didn't have to get any shots at the doctor, but poor Eden had 4 shots and an oral vaccine. She's been really cranky since, so I hope it's just a reaction to that. We did give her Tylenol twice when she's been uncontrollably crying. That's just not like her. She's also in this micro-nap stage where she'll nap from 20 minutes to 1 hours several times. It sure is hard to get anything done.

I had a nice birthday last Saturday. Steve went yard saling with the girls and I. He found all the good stuff, so I don't know why he doesn't come with me more often! He found an old beat up scooter that he got for $40. He's planning on fixing it up and enjoying it. He also found a gas weed eater and needs to replace the spark plug and clean out the carburetor. Yesterday I went again and spent too much money. I kept finding all these great deals on larger items. I got two new computer chairs, a giant lego princess castle, a new easel, a new whiteboard, a new toy tool bench, a new ride-in car, a new mini-vacuum for the basement, a scooter for Ella and some smaller finds. Usually I don't find that much. It was nice to be able to replace some of our broken/old things with newer finds.

I got a game called EA Active for the Wii for my birthday. It's similar to the Wii Fit game. I've done it 4 times this week and enjoyed doing it. Emily and Ella even got in on the action. But the real workout this week was the 1 1/2 hours spent weeding ONE flower bed and the 1 hour spent planting marigolds. I heard that marigolds are natural mosquito repellants, so I was all over that since they are Really bad this year. Ella came in from playing on Monday - the first day of summer break - with over 20 bites all over her arms and legs!!!! She was scratching them so much we covered them all with bandaids. She sure got some strange looks the rest of the week until we made her take them off for church today! One lady at the children's museum even asked me about them. I was so tempted to tell her that she had the measels and would only be contagious for a few more days.

Also for my birthday, Jill babysat and Steve and I went to visit Daybreak. That's a community in South Jordan. The hype is that it's a planned community where everything is walkable. The garages are behind the homes to make it more neighborly, there's parks all over the place and a rec room for the residents. I fell in love with it! I think that would be a neat community to live in. The houses all looked like the beautiful homes from the early century, but the insides were completely modern. A perfect mix. Sure would be nice to have money...

We bought some shelves off of craigslist last week and Steve spent yesterday installing them in the bedroom/storage room downstairs. My goal is to move most of my preschool supplies from the other room onto those shelves and turn the other bedroom into a toy room. The girls really don't have enough room for all their toys in their room - especially if we put Eden's crib in there soon. We'll see how that project goes. Oh, to have all the toys contained in one room....Ok, I'll stop dreaming now.

A couple of cute Ella-isms from today. Ella heard the MoTab playing from the kitchen and said, "I hear church from far away!" I thought it was cute that she thought she could hear people singing all the way from church (and that our ward sounded remotely like the Mormon Tablernacle Choir!) After church I asked her who the cutest girl in Primary was. She said, "Emily." Oh, so modest!!

This week will be busy getting ready for our yard sale next Saturday and getting ready for princess camp next week.

Your sense of humor (?) comes out with the measles comment! It would serve that lady right!
Hope this week is much better and that you can adjust to the new schedule (or un-schedule).
Knowing the Gibson teeth, I am not surprised that E the First has to have an expander. Paige can tell you how fun that was. But, we have to help our children by hurting them sometimes - if that makes sense. I know that she will gradually grow out of her fears. We will pray for the best for her (and you).
I'd say that you and Steve are super shoppers! Now I guess you can be super sellers at the garage sale that you plan to have.
Love, Mom

Oh, poor Emily. I hate to say it but it is true torture. I remember crying and crying everyday not only from the pain but from the anticipation of another key turn. Just get the Tylenol ready and tell her Aunt Paige understands!

Sounds like I need to come up to AF for yard sales! Orem has nothing!

Sooo sorry to hear about my little Emily. I've never heard of the procedure, but I guess Paigie went through it. We'll be praying for her.

Loved the update! Cute stories. Wish we could come house hunting with you guys. Sounds like you have a lot of fun doing it. It's just too bad all the homes you look at are in Utah. :-) Enjoy summer. Today was our first real day of summer - despite the rain, clouds, and jacket-weather.

Poor little girl, we'll be praying for her. Chandler isn't looking forward to having his teeth fixed. Dental work is no fun, that's why I never go!

Sorry it took me awhile to respond! Here are my comments:

~ I agree- summer is HARD for moms! It's hard for me to get any cleaning/organizing/projects done when the kids just want to go places and have fun all the time (okay, so maybe their mom does too!). It's hard to be creative and think of things to do every day. You're doing great handling it so far though!

~ Poor Emy! That's horrible about the expander. I hope they give her some good painkillers. I think I remember that Paige had one of those too. Not fun at all. But her beautiful smile on her wedding day will be all because of you putting her through this! I'll have to come bring her a surprise that day to cheer her up.

~ Sweetie Edy was so cute yesterday at the Legacy Center pool. I'm glad she's feeling better from her shots. Braydon's baby shots made him cranky for a few days I remember...

~ You guys find awesome stuff at yard sales! The scooter sounds so fun! When he fixes it up, tell him I want to have a ride! :)

~ The EA Sports thing sounds so fun! It's funner than the dreaded treadmill every day it sounds like. And I agree- gardening is a very hard workout. It's worth it in the end though. I hope Ella feels better from all her mosquito bites. I "love" random people who look at my child and say, "What's WRONG with her?!" :)

~ Daybreak is a beautiful neighborhood with the new temple closeby. I'm glad you and Steve got a chance to get away for awhile on your b-day. I'll move up there with you guys- but too bad money isn't growing on trees for us either!

~ It would be great to have a toy room downstairs. Sounds very organized, but of course, that's almost impossible with kids.

~ Ella is so cute that she thought it was the church far away! She makes me laugh...

~ Good luck with all your camps! You'll do a fabulous job as always I'm sure!
