We had Emily's 5 year checkup with Kindergarten shots on Friday. Steve came home early that day so he was lucky enough to come with us! I had tried to talk this appointment up with Emily and told her that if she was brave we'd go somewhere fun afterwards. Well that failed. She got her finger prick first to check her blood. If you know Emily at all you know that she is VERY VERY sensitive to pain. That was basically the end of the world to her. She screamed like nothing else. I finally got her calmed down by telling her stories when the doctor came in. She was very wary of him. I asked her if she would get over being an overly sensitive child. We were hoping to hear that it was just a stage and she would grow out of it. Nope, the doctor said she would always be somewhat sensitive. Well that's not what we wanted to hear. Following that two nurses ganged up on her to give her 5 shots! They were quick, but I'm pretty sure all of Utah County could hear the screams that followed. Steve was holding her and was temporarily deaf for quite a while afterwards. She didn't calm down for about an hour. We headed to McDonalds after that and she was miraculously feeling better when it was time to play! We also went to the Disney store and she did much better until it was time to go. I do feel sorry for her though. I sure wouldn't want 5 shots and a finger prick! Both Steve and I have had our annual physicals lately and had blood drawn. That's enough for awhile! Emily's done with shots until she's 11 now!! Hooray - maybe she'll be able to handle it better then. And she's very healthy! She's growing well, has good vision, good iron, and developing well! We're very lucky that way!

I'm very hopeful that she'll do better at 11! Kelsey sure did. Of course, no one likes getting shots (even us "grown-ups"), but thank goodness you're done for a long while!
I wondered what that screaming sound was! And I was in Arizona!!
Give Emily (and Ella) hugs from Uncle Mark.
Oh, poor thing. That's never fun. At least when they're babies you know they won't remember it! I can't believe she's ready for Kindergarten!
Hey, Kim. Sounds like life is very busy and interesting for you! I had to draw many children when I was in college and found it was often harder on the parents than the kids. One time I was drawing blood from a 6 year old boy and he started laughing, it was a nervous laugh but still my favorite response yet! I definitely got some screamers too. So I guess now you just have to wait for Ella's turn, right? ;) Take care, Heather E.
Wherever did she get her lungs? Even as a baby, she just belted out with the volume turned all the way up! Maybe she is going to be an actress.
Glad she is doing well healthwise and that she is getting ready for school!
